Historical Significance
In 1622, the Spanish galleon Nuestra Señora de Atocha set sail from Havana, heavy with treasure bound for the King of Spain—ingots of silver and gold, Colombian emeralds, and coins freshly struck from the mines of the New World. She never made it. Caught in a hurricane off the Florida Keys, the Atocha sank beneath the waves, taking with her nearly all aboard and a fortune that would remain lost for over three centuries.
When divers finally located her wreck in 1985, the Atocha became one of the most extraordinary discoveries in maritime history—a frozen moment of the Spanish colonial era, preserved in salt and time. Each coin recovered told a story of empire, ambition, and survival across oceans.
The dials of our Nautilos Coin Watches are faithfully recreated from one of these original Atocha coins. Each piece is crafted in sterling silver, echoing the artistry and weight of the 17th-century mint. Though no longer plucked from the depths, these dials honor the spirit of discovery and endurance embodied by the Atocha’s treasure.
To wear one is to carry a fragment of history—reshaped for the present, but forever linked to the mysteries of the sea and the hands that first struck the silver.
